The Truth Will Out team sends sincerest condolences to Mr Tulat Raja, a Lib Dem candidate in the May local elections, and his family for the loss of two loved ones in such a short space of time.
The case of Mr Raja’s cousin’s recent death in Waltham Forest has been highlighted in the Waltham Forest Guardian. It seems Muslim families are frustrated at the time it takes for the bodies of loved one’s to be released for burial abroad.
Stella Creasy MP
Walthamstow MP, Stella Creasy, has had discussions with senior Labour Cabinet Councillors raising her concerns over a Council policy which sees bodies destined for burial abroad held for four working days.
Whilst there is a need to respect the Islamic faith, where it is important to bury the deceased as soon as possible (within 24 hours of death), there must be a respect for the rules and laws of the United Kingdom.
Simply visiting the Governments information website offers some clarity.
Under the headings “Funerals outside England and Wales” and “Removing a body from England or Wales” the following excerpts can be found.
“The coroner will need at least four working days before the body is to be moved and will issue a removal notice (form 104), part of which is sent to the Registrar of Births Deaths & Marriages.” and “However, in urgent situations, the whole process can usually be fast-tracked.”
It seems the coroners discretionary power to waive the four-day rule depends on the definition of ‘urgent’.
Was Mr Tulat’s need to transport his loved ones abroad urgent? If yes what defines urgent? If no surely he and those who share in his beliefs should adhere to UK rules.
What is more concerning to the Truth Will Out team is the lack of knowledge the Member of Parliament for Walthamstow, Stella Creasy, has on the matter. The Coroner implements Government rules. Until May this year her Party, Labour, were in control for the last thirteen years.
According to the 2001 Census the Walthamstow constituency consists of 18% who describe themselves as Muslim. A significant minority for those people seeking office to canvass!
